Jasmine Ramirez
My parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic to the U.S. to get my siblings and I a better education. I was growing up between New York and Connecticut when I discovered my love of the cosmos. Currently, I am in the last year of my undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut where I split my time between research of black hole accretion properties and brown dwarf atmospheres. I hope to continue my research in both fields as I transition to graduate school. I am breaking barriers in my family as a first generation college student and soon I will be the first to earn a PhD. I am passionate about growing the participation of underrepresented groups in physics and astronomy and mentoring future astronomers.
