Jamarius Reid
I attended St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, NC my freshman year before I transferred to Austin Peay State University ('18 & '19), then on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University ('20 & '25). I am currently a Doctoral Student at Embry-Riddle, where I will start my first semester August 2021. Space has always been an passion of mine an I remember reading astronomy books and watching National Geographic documentaries for hours when I was in elementary school (90's / early 2000's). This passion for space studies would remain with me throughout my life. It wasn't until I was introduced to the life story of former astronaut Dr. Ronal E. McNair who died on January 28, 1986 during the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. Dr. McNair is from Lake City, South Carolina who attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and MIT. After reading his story, I realized what my calling was. Ever since then, I've been on a mission to accomplish this goal no matter how long it takes. Like Dr. McNair I am from the Carolinas; Charlotte, NC an hour and a half from Greensboro, NC home to NC A&T. His path made me realize that becoming an astronaut is a tangible goal and not just a dream. My passion for space exploration rivals the sun's impact on our solar system. I have dedicated my mind, body, and soul to space (Aviation, Aeronautics, Astronautics and Aerospace). I know that my purpose is to make a profound impact on humanity and right now, I am on the voyage to fulfill my obligation. Thus, I truly believe that I did not choose this journey, this journey was given to me. I hope to one day be selected as a NASA astronaut candidate. When that day comes, we are going to reach heights that we have never reached before! Lastly, I will leave you with my personal credo "Strive to make and impact wherever you go, because everywhere you've been has made an impact on you!"
