Dr. Christopher S. Moore
Dr. Christopher S. Moore investigates the heating processes in the outer atmospheres of stars and the Sun at the Center for Astrophysics Harvard | Smithsonian. Dr. Moore develops new technology such as mirrors, and detectors to conduct improved space observations of stars on satellites and sounding rockets. Background: Chris grew up in the Chicagoland area and never seriously considered a career in science until he attended a college fair following football practice one day. He saw that physics and astronomy were possible career paths and decided to give it a go. Dream Big!
Education: Chris obtained his BS in Physics, BS in Astronomy, and minor in Spanish from the University of Iowa. Chris obtained his MS and PhD in astrophysics from the University of Colorado Boulder. There were many winding turns along this journey. Chris interned at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center while in undergrad for his initial projects on solar physics and microfabrication engineering. Chris performed half of his PhD research on mirror coatings at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a NASA Space Technology Research Fellow. The other half of Chris’s PhD research was as the Instrument Scientist on the Minatare X-ray Solar Spectrometer (MinXSS) CubeSat (http://lasp.colorado.edu/home/minxss/). Chris has always been interested the beauty of stars in the night sky. So physics and astronomy has been a great career path. Dream Big! Fun
Activities: Chris loves to stay active by playing basketball, running, swimming, lifting, and traveling the world.
